After high school, my plan is to go to college at University of Michigan. My goal is to be able to study pediatric oncology, which is the study of childhood cancer. My dream job is being a pediatric oncology nurse in Ann Arbor, the hospital for U of M.
Most people ask me why I would like to study oncology because it is such a tough job to have and requires a very kind person. Being a pediatric oncology nurse can be hard emotionally because your patients will most likely be very ill, weak, very young, and could be very sad.
Becoming a pediatric oncologist is my dream job because the awareness of childhood cancer is very important to me. The reason behind that is one of my best friends, Shelby, was diagnosed with cancer at age 15 and is currently still fighting.
Children with cancer don’t usually get the chance to live a normal life like we do. They are constantly in and out of hospitals and always sick throughout their battle. I believe kids, our age and even younger, should not have to be put through these things. I really want to be able to help these kids as much as I possibly can. Becoming a nurse that would actually help them is something I am willing to do and something I dream of. GoFundMe’s are often made to help pay for cancer treatment bills and in order to kill the cancer cells, treatment is necessary. Any type of donations and ways of spreading awareness always help.
This is why after high school, I would like to go to the University of Michigan to study pediatric oncology.
