Describe yourself in a poem. Share how you feel, how you see yourself, what you like to do, what you are good at, and what you wish for. There are no rules except that each statement should mostly begin with “I am…” or “But not…” Statements can be positive, negative, or neutral, but they should be true.
Your “I Am” Poem MUST have at least 15 lines and include figurative language, such as:
Simile
Metaphor
Sensory details
Precise words
Here is my example:
I am a Fostyk, a Richmond, a Suttle.
But not subtle.
I am a teacher
And a mom.
But I am not meek or weak.
I am an old lady who loves hip hop.
I am a walking, talking contradiction
But not affected by uninformed opinions.
I am Cleveland Browns scar tissue
And Buckeye pride
I am Go Hard or Go Home in a No-Whine Zone
And I am unable to accept privileged excuses from able-bodied apathy
I am as weary as striving for survival in quicksand.
I am always aware of my dumb luck
I am frustrated but inspired
But not ever far from cracking a joke
I am just kidding
But not sorry
I am always seeking summer sunshine.
