What does a “showing” sentence look like? What does a “telling” sentence look like?
Showing sentences give us a description of a moment, person, event, etc…whereas a telling sentence just says exactly what is happening. Here are some examples of telling sentences:
– John’s hands were cold.
– The pie smelled good so I ate it.
– My cat is hairy.
Here are examples of showing sentences:
– As John’s hands touched mine, a shiver went down my spine; if I hadn’t known that it was him touching me, I would have thought I’d been brushed by ice.
– The smell of cherry wafted through the kitchen and my stomach growled. I couldn’t resist cutting into the pie right then and there.
– My cat is soft and pillowy, with fluff and fur pointing in every direction.
Your task is to write sentences/stories that SHOW what is happening in the image above.
